Mark 7: 5-9

(3. Legalism makes things other than God absolute.)

5      The Pharisees and the scribes asked Jesus, Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders but eat their bread with unwashed hands? (without the religious cleansing ritual)

6     And Jesus replied, Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, "This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me.

7     In vain do they worship me, teaching human ideas as religious doctrines."

8     Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to human traditions.

9     And Jesus added, You nicely set aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.
